What is the Difference Between Mandatory Traffic Insurance and Motor Insurance?

Traffic insurance and motor insurance are two different products that cover completely different risks. While traffic insurance covers the damage of the other party in the event of an accident, automobile insurance covers your damage. It is mandatory to have traffic insurance, and motor insurance is optional.

What are the coverages of traffic insurance?

Material Damage Coverage per Vehicle and Accident: This coverage covers the material damages you cause to the other party. If more than one vehicle was damaged in an accident in which you were at fault, per-incident coverage comes into play.

Coverage of Health Expenses per Person and Accident: This coverage covers the bodily damages you inflict on the other party. Since the number of people in the vehicle is taken into consideration here, the coverage varies according to the vehicle type.

Injury and Death Coverage per Person and Accident: If you cause the death of a person as a result of an accident, it provides non-pecuniary damage coverage to the survivors of the deceased with the burial expenses of the deceased. Injury coverage covers damages that occur as a result of the other party being partially or completely incapacitated as a result of an accident.

Is no claim discount applied in the Mandatory Traffic Insurance policy?

In the event that there is no claim within the 1-year policy period, you start to receive a no-claim discount on your traffic insurance, starting with 10%. If you do not have any damage at the end of each policy period, this discount will continue to increase by 5% and you can earn a no-claim discount up to the highest level of 20%.

Penalties that may be faced by vehicle drivers who do not have Mandatory Traffic Insurance;

  • Drivers who do not have the specified traffic insurance face criminal sanctions.
  • Vehicle owners who do not have their traffic insurance on time, even if the traffic insurance level does not cause any accident, they lose the chance of discount on their policy.
  • If the policy is not taken out or renewed, a delay penalty of 5% is applied for each month of delay.
  • If a vehicle without insurance is detected by the traffic teams, the vehicle is taken to the parking lot with the help of a tow truck and banned from traffic and the vehicle is kept in the parking lot until the owner of the vehicle takes out the traffic insurance.
  • In this case, the owner of the vehicle is obliged to pay both the towing fee and the parking fee for the day the vehicle stays in the parking lot.
