AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK INSURANCE

Damages caused by natural disasters that may occur in the agricultural activities of countries and cannot be brought under control despite technological developments are covered by agricultural insurance.

The agricultural sector is one of the most vulnerable to natural disasters and environmental risks. Often referred to as an “open-air factory,” agricultural enterprises are exposed to numerous risks such as hail, frost, flooding, drought, and disease. At this point, Agricultural Insurance becomes the greatest safeguard for farmers and producers.

Government-supported and private agricultural insurance policies protect agricultural assets across all areas—from crop production to livestock farming, greenhouse cultivation to beekeeping. This enables producers to continue their operations without having to bear the full burden of losses on their own.

Agricultural insurance is a system that safeguards farmers’ crops and livestock against natural disasters and other risks that cannot be prevented despite technological advancements. The agricultural sector, often described as an “open-air factory,” holds strategic importance.

Producers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) are eligible to benefit from government-supported agricultural insurance. Fifty percent of the insurance premiums are covered by the state.

It covers yield and quality losses caused by natural disasters such as hail, frost, storm, tornado, fire, landslide, earthquake, and flood. Optional additional coverage, such as frost and quality loss, can also be obtained.

The greenhouse structure, along with the crops and equipment inside, is insured against risks such as hail, tornado, flood, fire, vehicle collision, earthquake, and snow load.
